Watch: Sanjay Bangar helps Shikhar Dhawan gear up for short deliveries
Shikhar Dhawan has had his problems with the rising deliveries and the deliveries shaping away from his body in the recent past. Indian batting consultant Sanjay Bangar is surely very well aware of this fact and had a unique high intensity drill for the southpaw to overcome this weakness.
Shikhar Dhawan failed to make it to playing eleven for the 4th and the final Test against the West Indies but that did not stop him from hitting the nets with the coach and the support staff. While the rest of the team waited for the rain gods to go away on the second day and finally let some action perspire at the ground, Dhawan was seen practising against the rising short deliveries.
In a video uploaded by the official Facebook handle of the Indian Cricket Team, batting consultant Sanjay Bangar can be seen throwing rapid rising deliveries at Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan looks calm and composed – hitting a few deliveries and swaying away from the rest. Bangar threw the balls from a very short distance in order to simulate the real time match deliveries.
The Indian opener was certainly up to the mark and played them by mixing caution with aggression. The Facebook wrote the caption alongside the video, “As we await the start of play on day two of the second Test, watch this high intensity drill as batting coach Sanjay Bangar peppers Shikhar Dhawan with rising deliveries from a short distance. #TeamIndia”

No play was possible on the 2nd day’s play in the Test and the story looked pretty much the same on the 3rd day of the match with the scheduled start being delayed due to wet outfield. On the first day, India was successful in keeping the hosts down to 62/2 in 22 overs before the rain intervened.
