Watch: Shoaib Maqsood and Umar Akmal sprint towards the same end and get run-out: The Pakistan v England 1st T20I was already an entertaining contest with the visiting team batting first and putting up a good score. Pakistan got 3 early wickets but later in the innings James Vince (41), English skipper Eoin Morgan (45*) and Sam Billings (53) all played strokes-filled knocks to take the total to 160 and when it was time for Pakistan to chase it they decided to give it away by playing some unconcerned shots and got themselves out of the chase.

The incident under consideration happened in the 12th over of the match, on the 2nd ball of the 11th over from English left-arm spinner Stephen Parry, Umar Akmal went on the back foot to pull the short ball but couldn’t middle it and immediately ran for the run, but his partner Maqsood did not see himself reaching the other end in time and thus denied Akmal the run and started running back.

Umar was sprinting and had no chance of making it back even if he turned, so decided to continue towards the non-striker’s end. And now there was this moment when both the batsmen were desperately trying to make their way into the returning crease but at the same end.

As the wicket keeper broke the stumps, even the umpire wasn’t sure who among the two was out and thus the decision was referred to the third umpire who confirmed that Shoaib Maqsood was successful in making his way back before Umar Akmal could do so and thus it was Akmal who had to make his way back to the dugout.
