Over the last couple of weeks, two of India’s prominent cricket names – Mohammad Kaif and Mohammed Shami – have been facing the heat of hate comments on the social media. A certain section of bigots seem unimpressed with their actions and have been posting hate comments about the two players. The cases for both Shami and Kaif are different but it remains centered around the religious grounds.

As per the bigots posting against them, both players seem to have violated the norms of Islam religion and their actions have been tagged as unIslamic in nature. Mohammad Shami had posted a picture with his wife on the social media that drew a massive backlash. Some people found the dress worn by Hasin Jahan, wife of Mohammad Shami, as inappropriate.

In the case of Mohammad Kaif, the fault of the former Indian cricketer was that his fitness practice was seen as a breach of religious conduct. Kaif had posted pictures of him doing Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) on Twitter. Some people condemned his exercise as unIslamic. Now, a video is going viral on the social media that backs the two Indian cricketers. The video starts with questioning what exactly is unIslamic.

Indian standup comedian Sorabh Pant released a rant on his Facebook profile and he mocks the people who condemned Kaif for breaching the religious grounds by doing an exercise that worships the Hindu god. The person rightly quotes that there are over 330 million Hindu gods. Hence, every second thing that a person does might be seen as breaching religious ground. When a person dances in rain, it worships Indra – the rain god; when someone earns money, it welcomes goddess Laxmi and so on.

He further adds that in a case such as this, even eating biryani by people might breach the religious grounds as it also belongs to one particular religion. He further mocked that if exercises are categorised based on religion then even gym workouts should be. The reason being that gym was found out by the Greeks and was pioneered by Hercules. In an analogy for the case, even Aamir Khan’s body workout for his recent release Dangal must be criticized.

He conceded if a person is being mocked for the dress of his wife or for his workout, then the people condemning them are anti-brains and anti-decency. Pant concludes the video by saying that all must get a bouncer from Shami that pops their heads out and Kaif takes a catch at the silly point.
