Watch: Steve Finn grab the first hat-trick of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: The first match of the World Cup in Australia between hosts Australia and England was all about the Australian batting as soon as they recovered from the early blows Stuart Broad gave them, cleaning up David Warner and Shane Watson. Aaron Finch at the other end kept the score board ticking.

He found able partner in skipper George Bailey and the two of them with a hundred for Finch (135) and half for Bailey got Australia past 300. It was up to the explosive Glenn Maxwell and wicket keeper batsman Brad Haddin then on, and they did excel the run rate and took Australia close to 350.

But the highlight towards the end of the innings was this hat-trick that Steve Finn got. The 50^th over was believed to be enough to take Australia’s score past the 350 run mark with both Haddin and Maxwell striking well.

Finn on the last three balls of his over and the innings ensured he not only kept Australia away from the psychologically advantageous 350 in process also got three batsmen out on the last three balls. It is the first time that a hat-trick has been recorded in world cup history.

On the third ball he 1^st got Haddin caught out by Stuart Broad at third man, on the next ball  Glenn Maxwell launched into the attack and hit the ball straight down the ground to get maximum but was caught inside the fence by Joe Root, giving Finn his second wicket. The third ball was also the last of the innings as Johnson tried to get the ball past Anderson for a four but was caught at mid-off completing Finn’s hat-trick. With that he also completed his five wicket haul and in the end had figures 10-0-71-5.

What this also did was despite a huge total of 342 piled by Australia, by the end of the innings shifted the positive momentum towards England which will help them come with lot more intent as they come back to chase down the Australia has set up for them.
