Watch: Tabraiz Shamsi takes a miracle catch
The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has begun with great enthusiasm. The league, which is just into its 2nd week, has so far seen a couple of great knocks and bowling performance. While everyone loves to batsmen scoring runs and bowler’s snapping wickets, one factor which can excite any viewer suddenly is an unexpected fielding effort.
In the 8th Match between St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents, Thisara Perera, Tabraiz Shamsi and batsman Stevan Taylor were involved in a stunning moment of the game. Tridents opener Stevan Taylor and Shoaib Malik came out to chase the stiff 161 runs target put up by the Patriots batting first. Both started pretty cautiously and there weren’t any extraordinary fireworks on display.
Things looked pretty normal until Thisara Perera came to bowl the 4th over of the game. Taylor prepared himself to face the first delivery as Perera ran in with his brisk run-up. The Lankan all-rounder pitches the ball at the good length slightly outside the off stump.
The ball keeps its line and moves slightly across the bat. Taylor isn’t able to judge the line and nicks the ball straight to the wicket-keeper. The keeper, however, fails to grab hold of it despite putting in a solid dive. But, the ball doesn’t go down and instead bounces off the gloves to Shamsi standing in the short third man region.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have had a slow start to the tournament. They have managed just one win from the four games they have played so far. However, there has no lack of individual brilliance. Evin Lewis made up for his single digit score in the first game by smashing two back to back half-centuries. Devon Thomas’ last over heroics against the St Lucia Zouks was another spectacular performances.
