1. Kapil Dev catches Viv Richards and secures the World Cup for India
Indian team had entered the finals of the 1983 World Cup and surprised everyone. Their opponents were the mighty West Indies who were vying for the opportunity to lift their 3rd straight title.
India made a paltry 183 and West Indies had begun their chase shakily. West Indies had lost opener Gordon Greenidge early, but Viv Richards walked in and began to stamp his authority on the match. But the moment came after Madan Lal bounced one and Viv top edged one in the air. Kapil who had stationed himself at mid-on, chased the ball. He turned himself side on and while India held their breath, Kapil finished the catch with ease and India knew that winning the World cup was now a reality.
India strangled the rest of the batting bowling out West Indies for 140 and winning their first World cup. The moment came in at number one because of the importance of the catch.
