Watch: Trent Boult's knuckleball goes awfully wrong
The green pitch at Hamilton raised many eyebrows before the second Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. But, what left-arm pacer Trent Boult did on the third day is little awkward from a bowler’s perspective and the pitch cannot be blamed for it in any way.
Trent Boult is an amazing bowler, a perfect left-arm swing bowler who is a genuine wicket taker. However, sometimes trying new things can go extremely wrong. Just like what Trent Boult did in this video.
Dushmantha Chameera’s brilliance saw New Zealand on the back foot after the second innings at Hamilton. Sri Lankans were happy with a 55 runs advantage and began their second innings steadily with openers Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis batting positively. Tim Southee and Trent Boult were bowling nicely in the morning condition.
In the 9th over of the fresh third day, Boult ran in and tried a knuckle-ball. The batsman was all ready, knees bent and totally focused at the bowlers. But, little did he knew that a wide floating delivery would fly out of the hand of Boult and go straight to Doug Bracewell at second slips! Oh Goodness! what has happened here, said the commentator.
The same must have been the batsman’s reaction. The ball just slipped out of his hand and went straight to second slip, falling just short of the fielder. The umpire signaled it wide with a slight grin on his face as Boult started walking back shaking his head with a smile on his face.
