Watch: Umesh Yadav packs off Jonny Bairstow with a reverse-swinging beauty
India dominated the day three of the ongoing 2nd Test against England as spinner Ravichandran Ashwin snapped his 22nd five-wicket haul to bundle out England for just 255. The off – spinner dominated the opposition completely and England could not find any way to tackle him.
But, the start of the day was not this exciting. Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes looked defiant and showed the Indians that they can also make them grind. For almost two sessions, England had things under control as the pair put up an 110 runs partnership for the 7th wicket and uplifted England’s hopes.
Kohli had effectively tried out the spinners. The trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav were easily dealt by the pair. Except a few oohs and aahs, there wasn’t any real moment of joy till the lunch session.
Thankfully, the post-lunch session brought a great respite for the Indians. With ball turning semi-old and the shiny side all developed, Kohli chose to bring in the seamers straightaway after the break.
The decision proved to be absolutely correct as Umesh Yadav produced a spectacular delivery, a full reverse swinging ball which broke through the defense of Bairstow. The right-hander, who was batting on 53, could do nothing as the ball beat his bat and crashed on the stumps. Yadav was the man of the moment.
The wicket gave the opening the Indians were looking for right from the start of the day. Ashwin then took advantage of the situation and spun out the English tail-enders to help India gain a 200 run lead.
