Indian stalwart Virat Kohli made a comeback to his ‘second home’ M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for the ongoing second Test match between India and Sri Lanka. The 33-year-old batter got rousing applause from the fans as he walked out to bat in the first inning. It is to be noted that Kohli is a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) camp since the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.

The Chinnaswamy crowd did not get to cheer much for Kohli during India’s innings as the right-handed batter got out after scoring just 23 runs. However, the fans remembered another RCB veteran player when Kohli was on the ground during Sri Lanka’s innings.

The Chinnaswamy crowd started chanting AB de Villiers name, who retired from all formats of the game last year. Kohli, who was fielding at slips, responded to fans by imitating De Villier’s iconic switch shot. Both Kohli and De Villiers are known to share an amazing bond both on and off the field. The duo has been often seen praising each other on several public platforms.

Coming back to the match, India after winning the toss decided to bat first in the second Test match against Sri Lanka. However, the home side had a poor start, losing both openers by the score of 29 runs. Meanwhile, Kohli, on a difficult track, did show some character but fell prey to off-spinner Dhananjaya de Silva after scoring 23 off 48 deliveries. Nonetheless, Shreyas Iyer’s outstanding knock of 92 runs off 98 balls ensured that India finished at 252.

Sri Lanka in their first inning have crumbled to say the least. Pacers Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah breathed fire with the pink ball and shared five wickets on Day 1. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel also scalped one wicket as Sri Lanka finished Day 1 at 86/6, trailing by 166 runs. Team India will be looking to wrap up visitors first inning and extend their dominance in the match.
