The first Test between India and England at Rajkot ended in a draw. It was skipper Virat Kohli who held the fort for India in the match. At one stage, England had strangled the Indians. The hosts were losing wickets at regular intervals. The fans surely did have a brief scare in the last session. However, it was a calm head Kohli who ensured India ended up drawing the match.
While the situation at Rajkot was pretty tense, a funny incident lightened up everybody’s mood. Even the commentators could not stop laughing at the incident. The incident took place in the 41st over of the Indian second innings when Zafar Ansari was bowling to Virat Kohli. Ansari bowled one in the rough and the ball apparently landed in one of the cracks of the fifth-day pitch. The ball spun viciously and bounced as high as Kohli’s shoulder.
A very surprised Virat Kohli looked bamboozled at the amount of bounce the ball get. Kohli found it very jovial, though. He was quick to look at the square leg umpire to indicate it was the one bouncer for the over. Players around the bat had a laugh about it and so did Kohli. Umpire Chris Gaffaney, who was operating in that over, actually indicated it as one for the over after Kohli’s gesture.
Chris Gaffaney not only gave the signal but also sported a wide smile while indicating it. The commentators also laughed their hearts out as the incident took place. The three commentators, Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton and Ravi Shastri, were all in praise for Virat Kohli. They commended the way Virat found it amusing in such a tricky situation and managed to keep a calm head at the crease.

“Just shows how clear his (Virat Kohli’s) mind is when batting. It goes past his shoulder and immediately he says it must be one for the over, with the laugh. And the umpire gave it”, remarked Nasser Hussain praising the Indian skipper. “Lovely, lovely. Kohli immediately looks at the square leg,” quipped Michael Atherton. “He can see the funny side. That’s great. Especially when there’s so much pressure,” Shastri added lastly.
