Virat Kohli yet again turned out to be the hero for India as he guided India to another emphatic victory over their arch-rivals Pakistan to maintain their unbeaten streak in World Cup games.

India and Pakistan played out a rousing contest in front of the packed house at Eden Gardens. The right-hander scored 55 runs from 37 balls and led his team from the front while chasing the 119 run target set by Pakistan.

India won the toss and Dhoni put Pakistan into bat. Indian spinners and poor Pakistani batting meant that they could only muster 118 runs on a turning pitch.

The Indian chase was jolted when Mohammad Sami dismissed Dhawan and Raina in two consecutive balls, while Rohit Sharma fell to Amir. But Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh made sure that India reached near the target comfortably and the run rate was kept under control

While Yuvraj was in some aggressive form, Kohli was doing his thing of holding one end up and making runs so that Yuvraj could play freely. Once Yuvraj got out, Kohli took it upon himself to take India to the finishing line.

He went on to complete his half-century and celebrated it in an extraordinary way. The flamboyant cricketer bowed down in front of the grand pavilion, where Sachin Tendulkar seated alongside Amitabh Bachchan and other A-listers. Virat Kohli, who is a self-confessed Sachin Tendulkar fan, later revealed that he was paying respect to the ‘God of Cricket,’ saying that he started playing cricket because of Sachin Tendulkar. It was almost poetical to dedicate his match winning half century to the legend of the game.

“It is very difficult to explain that feeling because I started playing cricket, watching him, because of him and seeing him in the stands and to be able to do that in front of 90,000 people, against Pakistan in a crucial match and with him celebrating and getting happy, I can’t explain that feeling,” said Kohli.

“As a child, I have seen him do that for India and now I have the opportunity to do that in front of him, so it is a feeling that is not describable,” he added.

The match was attended by many celebrity guests such as former Pakistani captain Imran Khan, former India opener Virender Sehwag and megastar Amitabh Bachchan amongst others. Amitabh Bachchan was present here to sing the national anthem of India before the match and Sachin Tendulkar was specially invited to the match by his friend and CAB president Sourav Ganguly.
