Watch: Virat Kohli sees the funny side as Rahane dropped David Warner
The Indian cricket team’s dream run under the leadership of Virat Kohli came to an end after they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Australia in the first Test at Pune. The Indian batting line-up failed miserably to keep up with the Aussie spinners and were restricted to low scores of 105 and 107 respectively in the two innings.
But apart from the disastrous batting performance by a formidable Indian line-up, there were some other reasons which led to India’s downfall in the first match. One of the main reasons was the poor close-in fielding by the Indian players which helped Australia survive some scares.
As far as the batting is concerned, India were once again bundled out for a low total of 189 as the batters struggled to tackle the spin of Nathan Lyon who grabbed 8 wickets for just 50 runs on the first morning in Bangalore. After a shameful performance with the bat, the efforts of the Indian players on the field was not up to the mark either as Ajinkya Rahane dropped David Warner early in the innings of Ishant Sharma’s bowling.
The left-handed batsman nicked the ball to gully in the sixth over of the Australian innings. Rahane dived to his left to pull off the catch but the ball popped out of his hand giving Warner a lifeline. This could cost India a lot of runs as the southpaw is a batsman of immense calibre.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli was all smiles after his teammate let go an opportunity. The chance was a difficult one as Rahane had to stretch himself to his left to get the job done. Virat somehow saw the funny side of the incident and was seen smiling as he was throwing the ball away. India would be hoping to improve on their fielding along with their batting if they are to win the ongoing Test.
