It is really hard to imagine India’s poster-boy Virat Kohli out of the action, be it with the bat in hand or in the field. His love story against the Aussies in their home continued, as he smashed an unbeaten knock of 55-ball 90, en route to helping his side take a 1-0 lead in the T20 series.

Kohli, as usual was quite pumped coming out to field after his scintillating innings. His repertoire as a fielder is known pretty well to the world and he was quite the livewire in the field right from the word go.

Kohli had already caught the dangerous David Warner earlier to send him back to the shed but it was the 9th over when things took a heated turn. Steven Smith, who had been India’s headache for a long time in all formats got a massive leading edge off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling and was caught by Kohli standing at covers. What followed was very animated from India’s limited overs vice-captain. As other players started gathering around to celebrate the wicket, Kohli was immediately seen making gestures with his hand directed to Smith. He was probably suggesting that Smith had been chirping a lot when he was batting or before the match which obviously didn’t seem to go down well with the flamboyant batsman. He wasn’t holding back at all as he gave the batsman quite a mouthful.

This wasn’t the first time that these two got involved in an on-field spat. During India’s last tour of Australia, on day 4 of the first Test in Adelaide these two were at it as well. When an unhappy Smith made a gesture towards Rohit Sharma, India’s stand-in captain was quick to come in and asked Smith to ‘shut it’.

Such incidents show the nature of competitiveness between these two world-class sides where none of them care to back off. Such aggression not only drives players but excites the audiences as well.
