At his best, the former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram was as good as anyone in the world as he swung the ball both ways and was handy with the bat too. Recently, the Lord’s cricket ground’s YouTube channel released a video of Akram in which he reveals that his only regret as a bowler is that his name is not listed on the Lord’s honours board.

He said that the ultimate dream of any cricketer is to come and play at the Lord’s, which is known as the ‘home of cricket’. “For every cricketer, who represent their country, their ultimate dream is to come and play at Lords – the home of cricket, the mecca of cricket,” he said.

Akram, who played his first Test at Lord’s during Pakistan’s tour of England in 1987, said that he was highly excited to play at Lord’s and termed it as a dream come true moment. “It was the ultimate for me as a young, 18-year-old kid coming to England, playing against England and that too at Lords, it was a dream come true for me,” said Wasim.

In Pakistan’s historic win at the venue in 1992, Akram took 4 wickets for 66 runs and also hit the winning runs for Pakistan. “The only regret I had as a bowler, I got 25 5-wicket hauls in Test cricket but not at Lord’s. So my name is not on the honours board.”

Despite having 7 half centuries and 3 centuries against his name, he rated the 38 not out at the Lord’s as one of the best innings he had played with the bat. Pakistan returned for another Test series in 1996 and Wasim Akram was the skipper of the side, who led them to victory again. “We felt over the mood. As a captain, it was one of my achievement to win against England at Lords,” he said about the 1996 Lord’s victory.

He played his last Test at Lord’s in 2001 but did not manage to get his name on the honours board.
