Watch: When Bruce Reid Failed to Score 2 Runs off 6 Balls: In present times, hitting 15-20 runs in the final over is nothing so special. In fact, it’s often come to spotlight that a batsman helped his team win the match at the last over hitting boundaries and sixes. But you won’t believe that there is a rare instance in cricket when a team failed to score even 2 runs at the final over.

Let’s take your memory back to December 18th, 1990. Two Tasmanian neighbors, Australia and New Zealand were battling it out at a 50-over match in the Benson and Hedges World Series Cup at Oval, Hobart. Australia won the toss and decided to field first restricting New Zealand to a modest 194 for 6 at the end of 50-overs.

It seemed quite an easy target for the Aussies to win the match with quality batsmen in their sides including the likes of GR Marsh, David Boon, Allan Borders and Waugh brothers. But what happened at the end is completely unbelievable.

After a fine knock of Marsh’s 61, few quick wickets brought Australia under pressure. At 93/3 at one stage, they suddenly landed into 193/9 after 49th over.

Needing just 2 runs to win from 6 balls Australians kept their fingers crossed. Left-handed Bruce Reid was facing the Kiwi strike bowler Chris Pringle at the penultimate 50th over. But he failed to take even single and played dots in the entire over. However, at the final ball of the over Reid was dismissed run-out by the keeper when he tried to run. Eventually New Zealand won the match and Pringle grabbed an impossible victory for his side.
