Watch: Yasir Shah’s massive leg break clean bowls thoughtless Gary Ballance
The first Test between England and Pakistan has developed into a gripping contest with the tourists taking an upper hand over the hosts. England mettle is being truly tested by the Pakistani bowlers, especially leg-spinner Yasir Shah.
The stout Pakistani leg-spinner has turned into a nemesis for the Three Lions and currently seems to be very difficult to counter on a deteriorating 4th-day pitch.
England are slowly faltering in their quest of chasing a target of 284 runs to win the game and Shah is playing a big role in their downfall. After starting out bit ineffective at the start of the day. The leg-spinner snapped two wickets in quick time to push the hosts on the backfoot and take his team closer to a win.
His first scalp came in the form of Gary Ballance. It was a peach of a delivery. Shah, who had pretty unsuccessful time bowling from over the wicket, switched the side and tried to make use of the rough patch by bowling from around the wicket.
His plan paid dividends as one of his delivery gripped and turned from the rough to crash onto the leg stump. Both Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow had nullified Shah’s attacking stump to stump line by playing him across the line towards the leg side. However, this technique didn’t work when Shah decided to change his bowling angle.
Ballance stuck to his across line method but the turn and bounce gave him no chance to connect as ball beat him while he was on the move towards the off stump. It was a great treat to watch the leg-spinner trap a batsman in such a way.
