Watch: Zaheer Khan inducted as honorary MCC Member
Former India pacer Zaheer Khan has been roped in as an honorary member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). He becomes the latest inductee of the coveted club based out of the Lord’s Cricket Ground. The other recent inductees into the membership have been former Australian skipper Michael Clarke and former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag.
Although the left-arm pacer announced his retirement from international cricket in the fall of 2014, he captained the Delhi Daredevils in the 2016 edition of the Indian Premier League. The Daredevils put on a fantastic show in the most recent IPL where he worked alongside a lot of youngsters as well. This fact of the matter saw his name tossed into the ring for the bowling coach of the Indian Cricket team, an offer which he would eventually turn down.
Zaheer Khan burst onto the scene in early 2000 when he bowled at a fearsome pace and hurried the batsmen. He was tipped to be the replacement for former India pacer Javagal Srinath who was in the last few years and the twilight of his career. However, a few circumstances meant that Zaheer was, unfortunately, thrust into the terrible labyrinth of the Domestic circuit.
However, just a couple of seasons of injuries and rehabilitation saw Zaheer Khan re-enter the frame as he became the premier bowler in both home and overseas tournaments. He also boasted of a well-documented partnership with Ashish Nehra who he partnered with in the 2003 and 2011 World Cup. The 2011 World Cup saw the Indians clinch the title, something that was quite literally the cherry on the cake as far as Zaheer was concerned.

That said, it is certainly an honor for Zaheer as well as the others as far as the MCC membership goes.
