The 3rd edition of the Women’s Big Bash League started off with a blast as record totals were scored on the opening day of the tournament with three games. The first game at the North Sydney Oval witnessed Sydney Thunder posting 200/6 in their 20 overs and Melbourne Renegades (189/6) nearly chasing it down. In another game played at the same venue, Sydney Sixers posted a record total of 242/4 with help of a 52-ball 114 from Ashleigh Gardner and Ellyse Perry’s 91* off 49 balls.

Here are the stats and records that were created during the run feast:

1 – Ashleigh Gardner‘s hundred in this game is her maiden century in a Women’s professional game. Ellyse Perry’s unbeaten 91 is also her highest individual score in a Women’s T20 game.

10 – Gardner‘s ten sixes during her explosive innings were the most number of sixes hit during a WBBL innings. Sophie Devine hit eight sixes against Hobart Hurricanes last year.

22 – The fastest fifty off the WBBL was recorded twice in the game. Gardner completed her fifty off 22 balls on the way to a century while Lizelle Lee also needed 22 balls for fifty in the 2nd innings.

47 – Gardner’s 47-ball century is the fastest in WBBL surpassing the Sophie Devine’s 48-ball effort for Adelaide Strikes against Hobart Hurricanes in the last edition.

47 – The 47-ball hundred by Gardner is the 3rd fastest known hundred in Women’s Twenty20 cricket. Deandra Dottin scored a hundred off 38 balls in a T20I against South Africa in 2010 while Sophie Devine scored a hundred off 44 balls in the last year’s New Zealand Domestic Women’s T20 competition while playing for Wellington.

114 – Gardner’s 114 is now the highest individual score in a BBL game. She surpassed Sophie Devine’s 103* against Hobart Hurricanes last year.

242/4 – Sydney Sixes’ total of 242/4 is the highest in a Women’s Twenty20 game. The previous highest was 205/1 by South Africa against Netherlands in a Women’s T20I game in 2010. The total of 200/6 by Sydney Thunder Women in the first game is the 2nd highest total in WBBL and the 3rd highest in a Women’s T20 game.

398 – The aggregate of 398 runs in the game between Sixers and Stars is the highest ever in a Women’s T20 game. A total of 389 runs were scored during the first game of this WBBL between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades which is the 2nd highest aggregate in a Women’s T20 game.
