Virat Kohli is an avid fan of the game of football and recently, his Indian Super League (ISL) franchise FC Goa qualified for the AFC Champions League group stage, making it the first Indian club to achieve this feat. It bodes well for the state of Goa, which is the only state or union territory to declare football as its official sport.
FC Goa will be representing the country of India in the AFC Champions League, commonly known as the Asian Champions League, which is organized by the Asian Football Confederation since 2002. It is viewed as the topmost football competition for clubs and the FC Goa team defeated Jamshedpur FC 5-0 in the ISL match on Wednesday.
‘Keep putting in the work’: Virat Kohli to his team’s players
The FC Goa team’s logo features the Gaur, the state animal of the Goa and even the team is known as the Gaurs. Virat Kohli was ecstatic at the success of his team and their history-making achievement in Indian football.
“Big ups to the Gaurs on becoming the first-ever Indian club to qualify for the AFC Champions League group stage and topping the ISL League table! Keep putting in the work. We are all behind you. #BeGoa #FCGoainAsia,” Kohli replied on FC Goa’s post-match celebration video.

This ended up with Goa finishing up 39 points from 18 matches at the top of the points table and became the Hero ISL League Winners Shield. Jamshedpur finished their season eighth with 18 points.
Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has to now focus on the first Test match between India and New Zealand which starts on February 21 at the Basin Reserve ground in Wellington. The Indian captain has hinted at including Prithvi Shaw as the second opener alongside Mayank Agarwal and also bringing in Ishant Sharma, who passed a fitness test and joined the team in New Zealand and was seen bowling throttle in a video shared by BCCI.
