With the T20 World Cup on cards, every team would be aiming to bring in their best playing XI on the field for the marquee event. With the amount of cricket that is being played lately, the teams and management have a fair amount of chances to monitor players and decide their right combinations. However, even the conditions are something that makes them put their thinking hats on while deciding the team set up. The England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan has opened up on the selection of the players for the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
The England side has more often than not practiced the rotation policy. Owing to this, different players have been able to put up their performances. Thus for a World Cup event, it is certain that the management would strive to include the in-form players. Morgan thus stated that the selection will take place considering the conditions and that the players are closely looked at. He also revealed that The Hundred is a tournament that can further affect the selection process as the players will have an opportunity to make it to the squad from here.
“We want as many options as possible. We are continually monitoring different guys. There are certain players we look at that that could have avenues in guys that do things differently, left-armers, guys that bowl at pace or have a huge impact on the game, predominantly hit boundaries with the bat. There is still opportunities for guys to do that in the Hundred, and have an outside chance,” said Morgan as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Eoin Morgan opens up on the playing conditions in the UAE
Owing to the uncertainty of the pandemic, the upcoming T20 World Cup is staged to be played in UAE and Oman. Speaking particularly about the surface of UAE, Eoin Morgan feels that it wouldn’t assist a lot of spin. England bowled comparatively more overs of spin against Pakistan which they haven’t done before in any T20I series. Putting his experience of playing in UAE, he pointed out that spinners shouldn’t probably get an edge over seamers as the venues are used to host a lot of games.
“Having played in the UAE recently at the time of year that the World Cup is going to take place, the ball actually didn’t turn a great deal. The IPL was played thereafter I can’t remember what tournament when we were there last time around [in 2020] and the wicket was still fine, good, held together really well. The curators there did a great job. I don’t think they will [spin]. They might, but I don’t think they will” he added.
