Millions of hearts broke when Martin Guptill managed a direct hit to catch MS Dhoni short of the crease. The moment shattered India’s hopes of winning the World Cup as the Kiwis prevailed in a pressure situation to enter their second successive World Cup final. But nobody thought that India will come 18 runs close to the victory when they were reeling at 92/6. They fought until the end to give New Zealand a huge scare and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the fighting spirit in the team.
The Men in Blue ended the league stage as the table toppers winning seven matches out of nine and they only lost to England during their tourney. While the game against New Zealand was washed out and it was only fitting that the two teams yet to play a game faced off in the semi-final. Many thought it would be a walkover for India but the Kiwis always punch above their weight and they did at the Old Trafford.
A lot will be said about India’s loss but they played some really admirable cricket throughout the World Cup and one has to credit them for the same. While Rohit Sharma smashed five centuries, which in itself is a world record, Ravindra Jadeja set the stage on fire with his fielding even when he wasn’t playing in the XI. The others contributed as well with the bowling attack putting its hand up every time the team needed.
Wins and losses are a part of life
Narendra Modi also highlighted the same in his tweet for the Men in Blue and adviced them to keep their chin up despite the defeat. He also went on to mention that wins and are losses are part of the life and wished all the luck to Virat Kohli’s men in the upcoming matches.
“A disappointing result, but good to see #TeamIndia’s fighting spirit till the very end. India batted, bowled, fielded well throughout the tournament, of which we are very proud. Wins and losses are a part of life. Best wishes to the team for their future endeavours. #INDvsNZ,” Modi tweeted.
