Team India failed to conquer the final frontier as South Africa walked away with a seven-wicket triumph in the third and final Test of the series. It was indeed a fascinating game as momentum was riding on a rollercoaster. In fact, Virat Kohli’s men looked in command after earning a 13-run lead in the first innings.

However, South Africa scripted a stunning comeback and sealed the game on Day 4. As the series was poised at 1-1 before this game, Dean Elgar’s men also clinched the series with a win in Cape Town. Needless to mention, Team India faced heavy criticism as they were touted as favourites for this series. Moreover, they recorded a thumping 113-run victory in the opening clash.

However, Dean Elgar’s men put up a phenomenal show and extended India’s wait for a Test series triumph in South Africa. Meanwhile, the conclusion of the game also saw an expected banter between former England captain Michael Vaughan and ex-Indian opener Wasim Jaffer. The duo have a history of rivalry on social media, which escalated after India’s defeat.

Yet another banter between Wasim Jaffer and Michael Vaughan

Minutes after the conclusion of the game, Vaughan took to Twitter and teased Jaffer by asking if he’s fine. “Evening @WasimJaffer14 !! Just checking you are ok,” he tweeted. The former Indian cricketer was ready with an apt response as he reminded Vaughan of India having a 2-1 lead in the inconclusive Test series against England.

For the unversed, India and England met in a five-match Test series last year. While India had an unassailable 2-1 after the conclusion of four games, the fifth match in Manchester was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. The inconclusive match is slated to take place later this year. However, the fact of the matter is India are 2-1 up in that series and Jaffer reminded Vaughan of the same. “Haha all good Michael, don’t forget we are still leading you 2-1,” he replied.

Meanwhile, India will now take on South Africa in a three-match ODI series, starting from January 19. While the hosts would take a lot of confidence from the Test series win, the Men in Blue will like to bounce back.
