The second leg of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin in September in the UAE. All the eyes will be on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since it’s a crucial year for the franchise in Yellow for several aspects. The mega auction is set to take place in 2022 and, it would be interesting to know whether the team retains the services of their talismanic captain MS Dhoni for the next three years.
Although the CSK CEO dismissed rumors of this IPL season as being Dhoni’s last, the speculations never seem to stop. Suresh Raina, who is fondly known as ‘Chinna Thala’ by the people of Chennai, wants CSK to win this year’s IPL under his good mate and brother Dhoni’s leadership. Both these players share a great camaraderie and have always rooted each other on several occasions.
The bond between Dhoni and Raina was there for all to be seen when both of them announced retirement from international cricket for India on the same day last year. Apart from that, the duo has been involved in India’s several memorable victories together and has helped the team reach new heights.
Raina wants to add another feather in Dhoni’s cap by winning the fourth IPL title for CSK. The team currently is second in the points tally and will be eager to continue with the same momentum when the second-leg of IPL 2021 resumes in the UAE. CSK made an incredible comeback this year, compared to last year, when they failed to enter the playoffs for the first time in the 2020 edition.
Suresh Raina is optimistic of CSK winning yet another title
“Hopefully, when we go to Dubai, we will have a camp and we can again win it for him. I think the way we were playing this year, we were having some extra confidence from his captaincy and he was enjoying each other’s success,” Raina told Star Sports.
Raina also spoke about how Dhoni gave freedom to all his players to express themselves and give their best for their team. “He was giving freedom to all the players and having Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, and Ruturaj in the side, we had the momentum. Hopefully, we can do it again this year for MS,” Raina added.
