In-form Shreyas Iyer will lead Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and expectations are pretty high from the right-handed batter. The Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise splashed a whopping INR 12.25 crore in the mega auction last month to get Shreyas on board. KKR also made several other significant buys at the bidding event which includes reacquiring Pat Cummins’services for INR 7.25 crore.

The Australian speedster was released by the franchise ahead of the auction but was bought back. As Cummins and Shreyas are set to join forces, the Aussie Test skipper recalled sharing the dressing room with the latter. Back then, both the players were serving Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).

Shreyas Iyer seems like a very calm guy: Pat Cummins

“Shreyas, I played with (him) at Delhi (Daredevils), we got on really well. He seems like a very calm guy and seems in form at the moment. I’m so excited to go over there, I have some close friends I will be playing alongside, can’t wait,” Cummins said during a press conference in Lahore.

“Really excited. It’s been great that most of the squad has been able to kept together. So, most of the players and staff know really well,” he added. As Cummins is now the captain of the Australian Test team, he might come to Iyer’s assistance in terms of decision making. Also, the Indian batter is not alien to the leadership role, having led Delhi Capitals to the playoffs twice. He was also in sensational touch during the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka last month.

Meanwhile, Cummins is currently in Pakistan for a three-match Test series, which stands at 0-0 after the first two games. The third and final Test will get underway on March 21 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Coming back to IPL 2022, KKR, the runners-up of the last season, will meet defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener on March 26.
