Tamil Nadu ace Shahrukh Khan getting a lucrative IPL contract is one of the most beautiful stories from this year’s auction. The auction for IPL 2021 took place in Chennai on Thursday (February 18). A total of 292 players were shortlisted to go under the hammer for the 61 available slots. In the end, only 57 players managed to get IPL contracts.

South Africa star Chris Morris became the most expensive buy in the IPL history after Rajasthan Royals secured his services for a whopping amount of Rs 16.25 crores. The likes of Kyle Jamieson, Jhye Richardson and Glenn Maxwell also earned lucrative multi-million dollar IPL contracts. The most expensive Indian player in the IPL auction was Karnataka all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham.

Chennai Super Kings signed him for Rs 9.25 crores. Talking about Shahrukh, he too got a lucrative contract as Punjab Kings shelled out Rs 5.25 crores for his services. The 25-year old triggered a bidding war between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals as he went up from a base price of Rs 20 lakh before the Punjab-based outfit gave him his maiden IPL contract.

The contract is a huge success as well as a major milestone for Shahrukh who has worked really hard to make it big in the game. The hard-hitting middle-order batsman was expecting an IPL call last season. He had even attended a Mumbai Indians trials but failed to impress the franchise. To make matters worse, he injured a finger and eventually went unsold in the auction.

Preity Zinta teases Shah Rukh Khan’s son:

A hilarious incident was witnessed after Punjab Kings secured Shahrukh Khan’s services. As soon as the auctioneer announced that Punjab Kings had won the race, their co-owner Preity Zinta turned towards the Kolkata Knight Riders’ table to tease Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood actor and the franchise’s co-owner Shah Rukh Khan.

Aryan was at the auction table for the first time. Zinta, however, showed no mercy on him as she had a good laugh at his expense by telling him, “we got Shahrukh, Aryan”. Aryan couldn’t resist a smile either as the cameras panned onto him. According to reports, Shahrukh Khan was reportedly named after the Bollywood actor.
