Despite losing the semis, Pakistan were impressive throughout the T20 WC 2021. They were clinical in all their victories. This managed to impress the former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria as well. Their quest to win the T20 WC started on a high as they managed to beat their arch-rivals India by 10 wickets. It was as comprehensive as it could get. They then managed to win the rest of their matches in the Super 12 rather comfortably as well.
However, the Aussies were simply too good for them in the second semi-final of the tournament. A carnage by Matthew Wade ended Pakistani hopes of winning their second T20 WC. However, this didn’t stop the cricket experts and pundits from praising their overall performance in this tournament.
Danish Kaneria felt that Pakistan’s performance was unlike anything he has ever seen
The former Pakistani spinner had a lot of good words for Pakistan’s team as well as their captain Babar Azam. He also lauded Azam for acting like a true leader and keeping the team together despite a heartbreaking loss.
“We have never seen the Pak team play with so much confidence and so well like this. In this tournament, the Pak team did not seem like their usual self. Their passion and motivation were amazing. Their fight and their eagerness to win.” said Kaneria on his Youtube channel.
“The boys played well, and Babar Azam led from the front. How Babar Azam gave a pep talk to the team after the match was good. How he asked everyone to keep their chin high and not blame one another,” he continued.
Last but not the least, he also backed Hasan Ali despite his poor performance in the semis. “Hasan Ali was a star of Pakistan, and he still is. People do tend to miss catches and how Shoaib Malik came to back him was commendable, and we all should back him like that. I am backing him. He is the future star of Pakistan.” he said.
