The Indian captain, Virat Kohli, who is one of the best batsmen to have played the sport of cricket, recently came under the scanner of the former Pakistani player, Abdul Razzaq, who made some critical claims regarding the Indian captain’s success with the bat. This is not the first time that Razzaq has ridiculed Kohli. Even the past, Razzaq had made similar claims, by saying that Virat can’t be placed on the same platform as Sachin Tendulkar, because in today’s time, no team has such depth that they had in Sachin’s era.
Virat Kohli is currently ranked No.1 in the global rankings of Test and One Day International Cricket and is at the ninth spot in T20Is. Kohli is the batting mainstay of the Indian side in all three formats. The right-hander has evolved greatly as a batsman in the past decade, has shattered many records, created new ones and in the process, has garnered a lot of praise from players and fans across the world.
Virat Kohli and Co. will be eyeing success on New Zealand soil
But, according to Abdul Razzaq, it is the backing from BCCI that has helped Kohli all this while. Razzaq was quoted by Times Now saying, “He is a fantastic player and there is no doubt about it. However, he is lucky as the BCCI supports him well and instils the confidence in him that any player needs to succeed. The respect he gets from his board is what probably inspires him to do well all the time and the results are there for all to see.’
Razzaq also added to his point, saying that many Pakistani players have the potential to become better players than Kohli. According to him, the reason behind Pakistani players not becoming successful is the neglection they face from the Board. He also had some words of praise for Kohli. He said, that all this while when the BCCI has supported Kohli, he has repaid them with his consistent performances.
“I do believe that even in Pakistan we have players who could become better than Virat Kohli, but they are neglected by our system which is a tragedy. In Kohli’s case, he has taken that confidence shown in him by the board and using his talent, repaid them with his performances,” said Razzaq.
Kohli and his men, after successfully defeating the touring Australian team, by 2-1 in a bilateral ODI series, will now be eyeing success in the upcoming tour of New Zealand. The Indian team will be travelling to New Zealand to play, 5 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches, starting from the 24th of January.
