As the next set of auctions are round the corner, it is in talks as to which players will be retained by their franchises. IPL 2022 is going to have a mega auction ahead of the tournament and in this light, many believe that legendary skipper MS Dhoni will end his stint with CSK now. Teams will have limited chances of retaining their star players and it remains to be seen if Dhoni is given a priority, given he is already 40.
Fans have been seeing that since the last two seasons, Dhoni has not lived up to the hopes of people as a batter. However, his captaincy skills and sharp frame of cricketing mind have always been of vital importance for the yellow army. In the same sequence, former pacer Dale Steyn believes that CSK will retain MS Dhoni if he makes himself available for another IPL season, despite failing with the bat.
When you think Chennai, you think MS Dhoni: Dale Steyn
“He is the boss of Chennai. When you think Chennai, you think MS Dhoni. And you know what? They’ve got a couple of games left and they are already into the finals. But we haven’t seen Dhoni do anything. If he smashes the winning runs in the final, you can guarantee that he will be taking the gloves for Chennai in next year’s IPL,” said Dale Steyn on ESPNCricinfo’s Polite Enquiries when asked if MSD will retain himself for CSK next year.
Even in this year’s IPL, Dhoni has failed to give fans a treat from his bat. However, his finishing six in CSK’s game against SRH gave fans immense joy as it came after a long period of time. He has been at the forefront of CSK’s stunning comeback in IPL 2021 as they became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. It was only in IPL 2020 that CSK had a terrible run in the UAE and finished at the seventh slot.
With age not being on his end, fans will wait in all the curiosity to see if their legendary skipper comes for IPL the next season.
