Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly while speaking about the future of Indian cricket also commented about the team having no bowling coach for Windies tour. He also said that Ravi Shashtri was offered Indian team’s batting coach post.
There were a lot of rumors recently about Shastri being offered the job of batting coach of the Indian team and that the man had apparently declined it. When asked about this, Ganguly said, “Yes, we offered Ravi the Indian team’s batting coach post.”
Some concerns have also been raised on Anil Kumble’s lack of coaching experience but Ganguly has full faith in his former teammate, repeatedly claiming that he believed Kumble was definitely up for the responsibility.
The coach had decided not to have a bowling coach along with the team for the series against West Indies, and Ganguly supports his decision. “It is Anil’s prerogative. Since he is a bowler, maybe, he did not appoint a bowling coach. I also have read in the newspapers that he may rope in pace bowling coach later,” he said.

The CAB president also said that he does not have any idea on whether former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan would be a prospective candidate for being the bowling coach. “I have no knowledge about this. BCCI will have to see whether Zaheer is available for 365 days or not,” he said.
He also said that there was not a “hard and fast rule” in place regarding the type of pitch the ball can be played on when he represented MCC. Ganguly dismissed all the comments that pink ball needs a sufficient grass cover.
