BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is in awe of West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle for the way he has batted so far in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The Universe Boss is featuring for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) this season and he only made it to the playing XI in the second half of the season. He wasn’t the part of the preferred team earlier and KL Rahul had mentioned that Gayle will play at the ‘right time’.

Unfortunately, when the team was desperate for him, Chris Gayle suffered from food infection and had to be hospitalised. By the time, Caribbean legend made it to the XI, KXIP had lost six matches out of seven and had to win all of their matches to make it to the playoffs. And the veteran hasn’t disappointed the team.

The first game he played was against his former team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chris Gayle announced his arrival with a sedate 45-ball 53 hitting five gigantic sixes. In the two matches after that, the left-hander has managed to muster 24 and 29 runs and his knocks have helped the team gain momentum with the bat.

These are the things to see and learn from, says Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly is impressed with the way Chris Gayle has played so far in the IPL despite sitting out in the first half. Ganguly also reckons that being benched for so long must have pinched the legendary cricketer and hinted at the competition in the IPL. He also stated that the cricketers should look at Gayle and learn from him to stay spirited when not playing.

“We all think Chris Gayle keeps laughing and roaming but it pinched him that he has been made to sit out. These are the things to see and learn from. IPL is just too much competition,” he said on Star Sports. KXIP have now won three matches in a row and are at the fifth position in the points table. They will be hoping for the Universe Boss to fire in the remaining matches and take the team to the playoffs.
