'We want Women’s IPL' - Crowd chants during Women's T20 Challenge final
There have been reports of a six-team Women's IPL likely to get started from 2023.
A specific group of the crowd from the stands were spotted chanting for the introduction of Women’s IPL during the recent Women’s T20 Challenge. A thrilling final encounter between the Supernovas and the Velocity at the Maharashtra Stadium in Pune saw the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side ending up on the winning side and clinching the title. Deandra Dottin’s 44-ball 62 earned her the Player-of-the-Match award while she was also named the player of the series for her impressive performance.
Meanwhile, there has been a significant demand for the introduction of the Women’s IPL around the world after the recent Women’s World Cup 2022 in New Zealand. Also, it has to be noted that the men’s IPL has had a considerable impact on the way Indian cricket has grown in the last decade or so, and a lot of new talents have been unearthed through the tournament.
Coming back to the crowd’s chant, it also showed how much the fans have been awaiting Women’s IPL to take place in the country. “crowd chants, We want Women’s IPL, We want Women’s IPL,” – a fan captioned his tweet after posting the video from the stands.

Meanwhile. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been constantly providing updates on Women’s IPL and after watching the Women’s T20 challenge he had also tweeted some positive news for the fans.
“The quality of cricket one witnessed in Women’s T20 Challenge was truly remarkable with the best of Indian talent rubbing shoulders with the best in the world. The future is certainly promising and the next season will be much bigger. @ImHarmanpreet @BCCIWomen,” Jay Shah tweeted.
In fact, the Women’s IPL is expected to start in 2023 if the reports from a BCCI source is to be believed recently, and a blueprint of how the tournament is also getting prepared. The tournament is likely to start with six teams as of now, but there hasn’t been an official confirmation on it yet.
