The Indian side was thrashed by the New Zealand side by 8 wickets in their second Super 12 match of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. This is India’s second consecutive loss of the tournament. On 24th October 2021, Virat Kohli and his boys were decimated by the Pakistan side by 10 wickets in their opening match.

And now, pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has opened up on India’s defeat. Bumrah said that a sportsman will face both good and bad days in cricket. The right-arm pacer added that a cricketer should stay in the present and try to move forward.

“As a sportsman, you face a lot of days in cricket. Some days will be good and some days will be bad. All of these things are always part and parcel of a cricketer’s life. Try to stay in the moment, analyse what went wrong, what went well and try to move forward. That’s the only way you can move forward in this game,” said Bumrah after India’s defeat to New Zealand.

We played a lot of attacking shots that didn’t come off: Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah also added that the Indian side knew that the dew will play a role in the second innings. He also opined that the Indian willow wielders tried to give some cushion to the bowlers by playing attacking shots, but could not emerge successful.

“We know that in the second innings dew does play a massive factor. We (our batters) tried to give us some cushion (to the bowlers), tried to get some extra runs that could give us the advantage in the second innings. In doing that process, we played a lot of attacking shots that didn’t come off today,” added Bumrah.

Bumrah further opined that in the second innings, the length ball was not holding up on the pitch, and concluded by stating that in the first innings, shot-making was difficult.

“In the second innings when we were bowling, the length ball was not holding up while in the first innings the pick and pulls were not coming off when they were bowling length balls and shot-making was difficult,” concluded Jasprit Bumrah.
