'We will focus on winning, net run rate comes second' - Sneh Rana ahead of crucial fixture against Bangladesh

The only team that has already qualified for the semi-finals in the ongoing Women’s World Cup is Australia, while the other seven are still fighting for a place in the top four. Among them is Mithali Raj’s Team India, which reached the World Cup final in 2017. India is fourth in the points rankings with two wins in five matches, the same as England, thanks to a better net run rate.

India began their World Cup campaign with a massive 107-run victory against arch-rivals Pakistan. They stumbled in the next encounter, losing by 62 runs in Hamilton against the host nation New Zealand. India responded with a 155-run victory over the West Indies at the same venue before narrowly losing to England and Australia.

The match on Tuesday will prove to be an important one for India as they look to secure their place in the top four spots. In the do-or-die match, India will have no space for committing any errors if they wish to book a berth in the semis.

Rana, who has proved to be an important asset for the team, spoke to the media ahead of the big match against Bangladesh. “Weather is something that is not in our control. We will focus on winning, the net run rate comes second,” she said, talking about the weather conditions at Hamilton. “The changes are made by the team management, but the mood is good in the camp. After we lose obviously everyone feels a little down, but overall, we’re a positive unit,” she added talking of the positive energy in the team.

“There are always healthy conversations we have with the senior players, they don’t put any pressure on us. Knowing that it’s the first world cup for many, they share their experience with us. Even through the New Zealand series, the way plans were made, they supported us,” she added talking about the support that she and her fellow mates receive from the senior players.

India will play Bangladesh on March 22 in Hamilton, and South Africa on March 27 in Christchurch. If they win both the matches, then their chances of qualifying are brighter.
