'We will see some good quality Test cricket': Mohammad Yousuf as Pakistan gear up to host Sri Lanka after a decade
Pakistan is coming off an embarrassing 0-2 whitewash against Australia.
History will be made in Pakistan when they host the Sri Lanka team for the 2-match Test series after a decade of fans and country missing out on the five-day format. Sri Lanka was the last team that visited the country before a terrorist attack on the visitors kept other top teams from visiting Pakistan for international cricket. The Men in Green played their home games in the UAE.
Zimbabwe, Kenya, and a World XI visited the country to keep the hopes alive, but the gate broke when Sri Lanka agreed to tour for a limited-overs series earlier this year, despite their top players refusing to travel. But the Sri Lanka Cricket was convinced with the security arrangements for the tour and when PCB proposed keeping their ICC World Test Championship encounters at home, they nodded in yes.
Mohammad Yousuf is more than happy to see Test cricket back in Pakistan
Former Pakistani captain Mohammad Yousuf is more than happy to see cricket back in Pakistan given a generation has missed out on seeing their international stars playing against world-class opponents in their won den for 10 years now. “It is indeed a great occasion; Pakistan is a sporting nation and we love cricket. Sri Lanka team coming to Pakistan for Test matches is a big achievement and fantastic news for cricket fans who can see their heroes play in front of them,” Yousuf was quoted as saying by New Indian Express.
He further hoped that the two sides will play some high-quality cricket in front of packed crowds with the two matches to be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi respectively. “I really hope this series will turn out well and we will see some good quality Test cricket which will be enjoyed by all,” Yousuf further added.
Pakistan is coming off an embarrassing 0-2 whitewash against Australia down under, where they also lost the three-match T20I series as well. They lost both the Tests by a margin of an innings and even conceded a triple century made by David Warner.
Not only Yousuf, but the majority of country’s cricketers like Shahid Afridi, Aamir Sohail, Umar Gul, Moin Khan and others have welcomed this move by Sri Lanka to play cricket in Pakistan and hoped that other teams also followed suit.
