MS Dhoni is set to captain Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2025 season, following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury-enforced absence.
Gaikwad sustained a blow to his right forearm during CSK’s defeat to Rajasthan Royals on Sunday in Guwahati.
Reports confirm that Gaikwad suffered an elbow fracture, ruling him out for the remainder of the season, beginning with CSK’s next match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.
Dhoni last captained CSK in the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad against Gujarat Titans, where Ravindra Jadeja hit a four and a six in the last two balls to clinch CSK’s fifth IPL title.
The former India captain has led CSK in 235 matches, including all five of the franchise's title-winning campaigns.
In IPL 2022, Dhoni had passed on the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja, but Jadeja handed it back midway through the season following a string of poor performances.
