Avesh Khan has been in and around for a long time in the domestic circuit, and was finally handed his international debut in the third T20I against West Indies as Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant had left the bio bubble after the second T20I to be rested for the Sri Lanka series while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal were rested for the third game. Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad were named in the playing XI alongside debutant Avesh and all-rounder Shardul Thakur to make up the changes.
Avesh had an outstanding IPL 2021 season with 24 wickets in 15 games and had an impressive economy rate of under 7.5. The Madhya Pradesh seamer came through the ranks from the U-19 World Cup and he had to wait for an extended run of chances in IPL. However, the absence of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje had provided an opportunity to Avesh last year and he immediately grabbed it with both hands by finishing second on the top wicket-takers list.
The 25-year-old has had some impressive numbers in the first-class games he has played and his pace will always be an added luxury to any side he plays. He bowls a heavy ball and can hit the yorkers consistently in the death overs which was one of his great features in the previous IPL edition. He was part of the India squad for the New Zealand series limited-overs series after the T20 World Cup 2021 but could not get his chance in playing XI.
Avesh wasn’t retained by the Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction and he went into the uncapped list of Indian fast bowlers. The Lucknow Super Giants bagged the pacer for a whopping INR 10 crore and he turned out to be the most expensive uncapped Indian pacer. He will have a big role to play in the future for India with his ability to hit the right lengths with the new ball.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Avesh’s debut in the third T20I:
Avesh Khan's debut and Ruturaj Gaikwad's third game would be a perfect icing on the cake for MP and Maharashtra cricket after starting their #RanjiTrophy campaign with delightful wins https://t.co/5I12SRC6Gz

Congratulations Young Avesh Khan, for making your T20 International Debut for your country. Youngsters should pursue their dreams in India and not fall for the Hindu hate and Muslim Victimhood campaign which likes of Rana Ayub and Arfa Khanum Sherwani want them to follow instead pic.twitter.com/KI7mdh2DLw

Another debut for India #AveshKhan @Avesh_6 for #INDvsWI
I was waiting to see @RishabhPant17 hugging Avesh. But later realised he isn't in the squad even. Damn missed that moment. Would've been great to watch that. Nevertheless a deserving debut. pic.twitter.com/5XKZ8mYe9e
