We’re not interested, says Rubel Hossain in response to Gulbadin Naib’s ‘tumko lekar dubenge’ comment
Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan comfortably by 62 runs.
After coming 11 runs close to beating India in Southampton, Afghanistan were expected to put up an even better show against Bangladesh at the same venue. Rather one felt that it was their best chance to register a win in the tournament having thumped the Tigers in the Asia Cup last year. Even their skipper Gulbadin Naib was extremely positive about getting their first points on the board.
Afghanistan were already knocked out of the tournament even before the Bangladesh game began. However, Mashrafe Mortaza and his troops were in a must-win situation and a loss would’ve left their campaign in doldrums as well. Pointing out at same, Naib had some cheeky words, of course in a friendly gesture, to the neighbouring country as he said, “Hum to dube hai sanam, tumko lekar dubenge (We are already drowning darling, but we’ll take you with us).”
Such was the Afghans’ confidence coming into the game. But as it turned out, Bangladesh were too clinical on the day as they won the match by 62 runs to keep Afghanistan winless after seven matches.
Rubel Hossain’s cheeky response
Bangladesh fans are extremely emotional when it comes to cricket and they mustn’t have liked Gulbadin Naib’s remark. However, this time, it was a cricketer, Rubel Hossain, who responded hilariously to it and took a dig at the Afghanistan captain. In a tweet, he mentioned that Bangladesh are not interested to join you in your journey as they stayed alive with a win over Afghanistan at The Rose Bowl.
As far as the match is concerned, Shakib Al Hasan was the hero for Bangladesh on the day who shattered records with his 51 with the bat and then 5/29 with the ball. Rubel Hossain wasn’t a part of the playing XI for this encounter as Mohammad Saifuddin was fit and had to make way for the preferred pacer in the line-up.
