West Indies have named their 14-member squad for the upcoming three-game ODI series against New Zealand that will commence on August 17. 22-year-old off-spinner, Kevin Sinclair, who is yet to make his ODI debut, is included in the West Indies squad. The Chief Selector of West Indies said that they wanted to broaden the pool of players for the series against New Zealand.

Desmond Haynes, the chief selector, said that Sinclair has been for a while, and they believe that the spinner would perform well with his calm approach and skills against the Kiwis. Sinclair was formerly with the West Indies A team to play against Bangladesh A in the upcoming series. The youngster has played six T20Is so far since his debut in March 2021.

“As we stated before, we are looking to broaden the pool of players and we have decided to give Sinclair an opportunity in the CG United ODI Series against New Zealand,” Haynes was quoted on the official website of West Indies Cricket. “He has been in the system for a while and was also in the ‘A Team’ to play against Bangladesh ‘A’ in the upcoming series. We believe with his calm approach and skills he will do well in the matches against New Zealand.”

Left-arm orthodox spinner Gudakesh Motie, who suffered a finger injury during the previous series against India, also made the ODI squad for the New Zealand series. However, his place is still subject to his fitness. Meanwhile, Haynes said that this would be the last home series in the international season and it would be good to end it with a “solid” performance.

“New Zealand is a very good cricketing nation, and this will be a very competitive series. We have confidence in the players selected that they will do very well. This is the last series of the international season at home, and it would be good to end with some solid performances as we continue to build towards the ICC World Cup in India next year,” added the former West Indies batter.
