The West Indies cricket team will embark on a two-week trip to India to take part in a limited-overs series against the ‘Men in Blue’ that consists of 3 ODIs and as many T20I games. The series between India and the West Indies will commence on 6th February 2022.
And, the West Indies have announced the ODI squad for the series against India. Veteran right arm pacer Kemar Roach as well as Nkrumah Bonner have made a return to the squad. Brandon King has also found a place in the squad as well.
Also, the selector of the West Indies side, Desmond Haynes heaped praises on Roach and stated that the pacer is one of the leading fast bowlers at the moment. Haynes also threw light on Bonner’s selection and said that the batter has improved tremendously.
“Kemar Roach is one of our leading fast bowlers and we believe we need bowlers upfront to get early wickets, and Kemar, with an economy rate of five, is certainly good enough to play. Over the last few years, Nkrumah Bonner’s cricket has come on leaps and bounds and we believe he should be given an opportunity to play in the 50-over format,” said Desmond Haynes according to the official website of Cricket West Indies.
We are looking at this series as a preparation for the 2023 World Cup: Desmond Haynes
Desmond Haynes also added that West Indies should reach a stage where there is competition for various places in the side. Adding that the team selected is a good one, Haynes concluded by stating that this tour to India will be an ideal preparation for the ‘Men in Maroon’ for the 2023 fifty over World Cup.
“We want to have competition for places. We want to reach a stage where we have a lot of players fighting for positions. We want to broaden the pool of players we have to choose from. The team we have selected is a very good side and we are looking at this tour as part of the preparations for the World Cup in India in 2023,” concluded Haynes.
