2011 World Cup; lost to Pakistan in quarter-final
The Caribbeans were led by Darren Sammy in this edition and they had a fifty-fifty record in the group (B) stage. They lost to South Africa by 7 wickets in the first game but hammered the Netherlands by 215 runs in the next game. The Windies then skittled out Bangladesh out for 58 in their own den to win by 9 wickets and followed it up with a 44-run victory over Ireland. The West Indies finished fourth in the group by losing their final two games against England by 18 runs and India by 80 runs, respectively. West Indies’ run in the World Cup was terminated by Pakistan who crushed them by 10 wickets in the quarter-final after bowling them out for 112.
2015 World Cup; lost to New Zealand in quarter-final
Under Jason Holder, the Windies were off to a shocking start in this WC as Ireland chased down their score of 304 to win by 4 wickets. The former champions them made a solid comeback by thrashing Pakistan by 150 runs and Zimbabwe by 73 runs. But they suffered a massive loss in the hands of South Africa who scored over 400 and defeated them by 257 runs. India next beat the West Indies by 4 wickets and the Caribbeans thumped the United Arab Emirates by 6 wickets in their final encounter to finish fourth in the group with three wins and as many losses. West Indies faced New Zealand in the quarter-finals and were hammered by Martin Guptill who scored 237 not out to take his side’s total to a mammoth 393 for 8. It was far too high a mountain to climb for the West Indies and they fell short by 143 runs, failing to make another semi-final since 1996.
