West Indies players to get handsome bonus if they win England Test series

West Indies players are set to be rewarded with a massive bonus if they manage to beat England in the three-match Test series. The team, led by Jason Holder, thumped the Three Lions by four wickets at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, taking a crucial 1-0 lead in the series. The visitors are currently the holders of the Wisden Trophy after winning the earlier Test series in 2019.

The second Test gets underway on Thursday, July 16 at the Old Trafford in Manchester. If Holder’s men manage to turn the Brits over, then apart from winning the series, they will also be retaining the Wisden Trophy. This, apart from garnering more points in the ICC World Test Championship. Being the number 8 Test side, they had to defy the odds to come out victorious last time.

West Indies cricketers set to be rewarded

As far as the rewards are concerned, the Caribbean players will be getting a maximum bonus of 1,875 pounds each on winning the series as per reports in Daily Mail. Going by the Cricket West Indies (CWI) contracts, the Caribbean players don’t receive win bonusses. If they win the upcoming Manchester Test, then a total of 23,800 pounds would be split among the entire squad.

Half of the West Indies’ win bonusses are shared by the entire 15-man squad and the rest is divided among the ones, who took the field. Hence, if a match features all the players, then the allotment drops down to below 1,600 pounds per person. In the meantime, the England players will be getting 17 times more than their opponent if they manage to stage a comeback in the series.

The Brits’ players will be getting approx 6,500 pounds apart from their general match fees provided they draw level in the series. As far as the West Indies is concerned, they found themselves in trouble several times in the Southampton Test, but managed to get out of jail every other time.

Even when they were chasing 200 in the fourth innings, they lost three early wickets, but Jermaine Blackwood’s 95 got them over the line. Shannon Gabriel became the Player of the Match for picking nine wickets. Jason Holder also picked up his career best Test figures in the first innings.
