West Indies rise to second spot in the ICC T20I rankings

The West Indies beat England in an enchanting encounter at the Eden Gardens to secure their second World T20 title. While a whole lot of history was created in the cause, the Windies have much more to cheer at the moment. Winning the title sees them go up the standings of the ICC rankings as they now sit pretty at second place on the table. Moreover, they are on 125 points, just one point behind India who sits atop the T20 rankings with 126 runs.
Despite losing the final in perhaps the most disappointing circumstances, England has now moved up the standings after displacing South Africa to claim the fourth spot. Semifinalists New Zealand retain their 3rd spot on the rankings.
The batsman ratings see Virat Kohli hold down the top spot with comfort while he is trailed by Aussie opener, Aaron Finch. At the moment, Kohli leads Finch by 86 points after being named as the man of the tournament. Prior to the World T20, Kohli was leading Finch by 24 points. Joe Root, who has been a revelation for England has leapt 7 places in the rankings after scoring an unbeaten 27 and 54 in the semifinal and final respectively.

Marlon Samuels’ superhuman performance in the final sees him break back into the top 20 batsmen rankings. England’s Jos Buttler is the other batsman inside the top 25 to improve his ranking. The wicketkeeper/batsman is now in 24th spot after moving up three places. Jason Roy, Johnson Charles and Lendl Simmons are among the batsmen outside the top 20 to move up the rankings.
As for the bowler’s rankings, spin dominates as Samuel Badree, Imran Tahir, and Ravi Ashwin occupies the first three slots. And in that order as well. While Jasprit Bumrah has moved up, Ashish Nehra occupies the 11th spot on the rankings. Chris Jordan, Adil Rahshid, and Andre Russell also move up the rankings but remain outside the top 20 at the moment.
There is no change in the top five of the all-rounders’ list, which is headed by a retired Shane Watson. He is followed by Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh, Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and West Indies’ Marlon Samuels.
