West Indies could see the return of their stars ahead of 2019 World Cup
The fans were happy to see me back on the field representing West Indies: Gayle
The WICB (West Indies Cricket Board) is prepared a truce with the Carribean stars for their inclusion in the ODI squad. Which means that the likes of Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Keiron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo can be seen donning the Maroons in the World Cup of 2019 in England. A substantial amount of progress was made amidst the negotiations between the player and Board. The stars have made themselves available for selection in the ODI side after an amnesty was proposed by WIPA, the players’ union.
Chris Gayle remained optimistic about his chances to feature in the One Dayers yet again after a long-standing standoff with the Board regarding payment disputes. The Carribean stars are expected to join the ODI side for their upcoming tour to England for the One-Day Internationals, which starts in a few weeks time. He last featured in the colours of the Windies last in the T20 World Cup 2016 held in India. In the one-off T20I against India in his hometown at Jamaica, Gayle made a comeback after 18 months.
Gayle optimistic about West Indies FTP
“The fans were happy to see me back on the field representing West Indies. Hopefully, things can get better. Hopefully, I can play a few more games. I definitely want to play the 2019 World Cup, things are beginning to open up a little more now between players and the board. It’s looking good, and we’ve to try and build from this to get the best players out on the field.” commented a hopeful Chris Gayle according to Espncricinfo, during an event in Bengaluru on Thursday.
The key to the resolution has been Cricket West Indies abandoning its contentious policy regarding player availability for regional cricket. Whereas in recent years, CWI policy dictated that players would only be eligible for West Indies selection if they had played in the corresponding format in regional cricket, the board is now in the process of softening that hard line stance.
