West Indies team adapting to Indian pitches and improving their game: Sherfane Rutherford
West Indies are scheduled to take on India in a series of 3 ODIs and as many T20I matches
After getting some tough competition from Afghanistan at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, where they lost the T20I series 2-1, but managed to win the ODI series and the only Test, the West Indies team is now getting ready for a tougher fight on their hands, when they take on India in a series of 3 ODIs and as many T20I matches starting December 6.
The Men in Maroon have been in the country for well over a month now, and have been trying to get adapted to the slow Indian pitches, on which their spinner Rahkeem Cornwall out bowled Afghanistan spinners, picking 10 wickets in the Test. However, things will change for the Windies team as format changes and all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford shared some of the preparation secrets of the team with respect to the upcoming challenge of facing India in India.
Most Indian pitches are good wickets to bat on: Sherfane Rutherford
“Most of the Indian pitches are good wickets to bat on. We have been working on adapting to the pitches so we can improve our game. I don’t think players are thinking too much about the World Cup or IPL, it’s just about performance and everything else will follow from there,” Rutherford was quoted as saying by TimesNow.
Talking about his own role in the team, Rutherford was first of all happy to get the opportunity and the time they have gotten to get ready for the series. The West Indies all-rounder mentioned that he took tips from Kieron Pollard, the skipper and Andres Russell on how to be an asset to the team in the middle order. ”
My role in the middle order is similar (to that of Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell). I have been working with them, talking to them and learning a lot. My game is about adapting and learning. KP (Pollard) is such a cool leader. He’s somebody you can talk to. Someone, who would listen to you always. (He) brings a different energy to training sessions and the guys look up to him,” he further added.
He also mentioned that the team wants to take it step by step as they near to defending their T20 World Cup title in Australia in 2020 and he himself is looking to play all the three formats and is doing everything in his power to make that happen and is ready to perform to the best of his abilities when he gets the opportunity.
