Although India claimed a 2-0 win over the West Indies, the series came to somewhat of a disappointing end to the final Test match at Trinidad with just the one session played. However, in spite of this, it is clear that there are a few aspects of the series that will certainly go on to add a massive amount of value to those who threw their hat into the ring. While this was also Anil Kumble’s first ever coaching assignment, we take a look at the players who stood out for India in the series.
KL Rahul – 7.5/10
Having missed the first Test match, Rahul got his lucky break in the second Test at Antigua. He smashed a wonderful 158, something that would eventually see him keep his place in the side for the next few matches. He concluded the tournament as India’s second highest run-getter with 236.
Shikhar Dhawan – 6/10
The southpaw has had a quiet tour of the Caribbean with the bat. However, the fact of the matter remains that he got the series underway with a wonderfully compiled 84 in the first Test match in Antigua.
Murali Vijay – 3/10
A finger injury in the first match saw Vijay sit out of action for a massive portion of the first Test and the rest of the series.
Cheteshwar Pujara – 5.5/10
The patient Indian batsman came under a considerable amount of flak when he played a slow innings in the second Test match, something that almost led to a draw. However, he came back to the side in the final Test only for the match to be washed out.
Virat Kohli – 7/10
The Indian skipper started the series with a bang when he smashed 200 in the first innings of the first Test. However, since then, it has been a downward spiral for the Indian skipper as he netted just single digits in his last two innings of the tour.
Ajinkya Rahane – 8.5/10
The Indian vice-captain had a wonderful time with the bat as he concluded the series with 243 runs, the second highest by a batsman in the series after Virat Kohli. He also claimed a ton and a fifty to his name at a massive average of 121.50.
Wriddhiman Saha – 7.5/10
Apart from some magnificent glove work from the 31-year old, his prowess with the bat was highlighted as he went on to claim his maiden Test match ton at St. Lucia in the third Test. However, the fact remained as he went on to score some important runs.

Ravichandran Ashwin – 9/10
Perhaps the best and the most productive series for the 29-year old all-rounder. Apart from 2 centuries and 235 runs in the series, Ashwin claimed 17 wickets in the series as well, making him one of the few players to achieve this feat.
Amit Mishra – 6.5/10
The leg-spinner came into the side for the first two Tests. In spite of making an impact and troubling the batsmen, he does not have wickets to show for his efforts. He was subsequently dropped for the third Test at St. Lucia.
Ishant Sharma – 6/10
The 27-year old is quite clearly the spearhead of the Indian pace bowling attack. Having said that, Ishant has not had too much of success despite his obvious hard work. He managed just 8 wickets in the series.
