1. Ajinkya Rahane makes hay while the sun shines
Ajinkya Rahane may have failed with the bat in the first Test. However, the fact that he was able to pick himself back up and make things right for himself in the second Test has shown his grit and character that many thought that he had lost. Rahane went on smash only his seventh century in Test cricket and also went on to become the second centurion for the Indians in the innings following KL Rahul’s amazing knock of 158 the previous day. Moreover, Rahane managed to remain unbeaten, something that doesn’t really happen that often.

Stats and records – West Indies v India 2nd Test, Day 3 – Statistical Highlights
2. Roston Chase makes his mark
Despite his erring in the first Test, the West Indies chose to persist with 24-year old Roston Chase in the distant hope that he would perhaps make an impact in the second Test. Things began brightly for the chase as he picked a couple of wickets and ran out Cheteshwar Pujara early on in the innings. he followed it up with a few more wickets on Day 3 as he completed his first ever five-wicket haul in Test cricket. However, whether he can do the same with the bat remains to be seen.
3. Amit Mishra shows quality strokeplay
Amit Mishra is known to be a bowler par excellence with the ability to pick wickets at will as well as cause problems for the batsmen who make attempts to play his brand of spin bowling. However, the fact that Mishra’s batting can almost be deemed as that of top-order batsmen given his strokeplay makes him an invaluable source of runs lower down the order. Once again, Mishra made his mark with the bat as he smashed a blazing 21, assisting Rahane to his century and as always, adding those invaluable runs to the team’s total.
4. Umesh Yadav provides tail entertainment
Umesh Yadav is generally known for his ability to play the big shots. Although he is not predominantly a batsman, his ability to play the big hits as well as score a few quick runs is something that can and will always come in useful when a batting team is looking to extend their lead beyond the 300-run mark.
Yadav smashed a quickfire 19 off just 14 deliveries including 4 boundaries in his compilation. While these were certainly important runs as far as the team total was concerned, the fact that he provided entertainment showcased to one and all that was perhaps the highlight of the entire ordeal.

5. Rain saves West Indies openers
For perhaps the first time in the match, rain made the divine intervention as the day was prematurely called off due to the dark rain clouds and poor visibility of the conditions. As well documented, it was bad news for the Indians who would have loved to have a crack at the West Indies openers before the close of play. However, the eight odd overs that were not played on the day ensured that Day 4 will now be a 98-over affair.
