Bangladesh resigned West Indies to a humiliating nine-wicket defeat in the second ODI at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Wednesday, 13th of July. The visitors completed a historic series win after winning their second consecutive game in the three-match ODI series.
The hosts were reduced to a paltry total of 108 runs in 35 overs by Tamim Iqbal’s men as the spin duo of Mehidy Hasan and Nasum Ahmed shared seven wickets between them in 18 overs, conceding just 48 runs. Nasum, who was playing in just his second ODI, returned with impressive figures of 3/19 in his ten overs and clean bowled the opposition skipper for a golden duck.
Bangladesh got home in a canter as their skipper registered an unbeaten half-century to guide the team to a comfortable nine-wicket victory with 29.2 overs to spare. Meanwhile, West Indies, who were dominant in Tests and T20Is, have been a shadow of themselves in the 50-over format as Nicholas Pooran’s transitional team has struggled to get a grasp of things, especially the batters. With the series already in the bag for Bangladesh, the hosts will be fighting for pride to avoid a whitewash.
Pitch Report
The pitch at the Providence Stadium has assisted the spinners in the previous two encounters and feels more like a subcontinent wicket. Scoring runs against the slower bowlers hasn’t been easy, and the trend is likely to continue in the third ODI. Batting first on this pitch is the more sensible option, as chasing anything in excess of 230 will be challenging.
Playing Combinations for WI vs BAN
West Indies
Pooran will hope that his batters can finally click in the series as they have been atrocious in the opening two games, failing to breach the 150-run mark on either occasion.
Predicted XI: Kyle Mayers, Shai Hope (wk), Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran (c), Rovman Powell, Keemo Paul, Romario Shepherd, Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph
Bangladesh
The visitors, on the other hand, are over the moon as they followed their historic ODI series win in South Africa earlier this year with another monumental series win away from home. Tamim‘s squad has looked at home in the ODI series, and even the absence of Shakib Al Hasan hasn’t deterred their progress. Bangladesh may decide to rest the likes of Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam to manage their workload.
Predicted XI: Tamim Iqbal (c), Liton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wk), Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain
