Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting was a brilliant batsman and the records speak for him. He played 168 Tests, 375 ODIs and 17 T20 Internationals for his country amassing more than 27,000 runs during his illustrious career with 71 tons and 144 fifties. But Ponting too went through a tough phase when runs dried up and he was out of form. Certain bowlers also troubled him when the going got tough for him.

Recalling one of those moments on Friday, the 45-year-old took to Twitter to term Andrew Flintoff’s over to him in the 2005 Edgbaston Ashes Test in the second innings as one of the best ever of his career. Flintoff had troubled him a lot in the four balls before with the incoming and away going deliveries.

Unaware of what to do, Ricky Ponting eventually succumbed to the final delivery of the over edging one behind to the wicket-keeper Gerant Jones. “Best over I ever faced. Class reverse swing at 90odd mph!” his tweet read.

However, this tweet from the Aussie great has left the Indian fans disappointed. It wasn’t only Andrew Flintoff who troubled Ricky Ponting during his career. The young and lanky pacer Ishant Sharma also proved a tough to nut to crack for the batsman.

Ishant Sharma dismissed Ricky Ponting twice in Perth Test

Ishant Sharma had troubled him a lot during India’s famous Australia tour during the 2007-08 season. The lanky pace bowler was getting extra bounce on already bouncy WACA surface and was all over Ricky Ponting in the third Test of the four-match series. Ishant didn’t only trouble him, but also got him out in both the innings of the game which India won handsomely to make a comeback in the series.

On both the occasions, Ponting had failed to read his variations and got out giving a catch to the slip fielder Rahul Dravid. It was regarded as one of the best battles of the series which Ishant Sharma had won hands down. And when Ricky Ponting’s tweet surfaced on Friday, the Indian fans reminded him of the torrid time the batsman had against India’s now most experienced bowler.
