Actor Anil Kapoor feels that the recent controversy around MS Dhoni and his association with a real estate firm was ‘very unfortunate.’ He says that endorsing brands comes with a lot of responsibility but one can’t presume the legitimacy of a particular company in the long run.
“I have always endorsed brands which I believed and supported, said Anil Kapoor.”
“I feel it is such a speculative business and sometimes you don’t know [what will happen]. What happened to Dhoni is very unfortunate. Sometimes real estate brands look very legitimate and honest so these things happen. You can’t stop them,” added the 59-year-old who was in Delhi with star Farhan Akhtar for the announcement of the 17th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards which will be hosted in Spain in June.
Earlier in this month, Dhoni was forced to resign as the brand ambassador of Amrapali groups after unhappy residents carried out a social media protest. He took this step after the complaints from the residents of Amrapali’s Sapphire project in Noida with hashtag #amrapalimisusedhoni had become a rage on Twitter over the past few days. The residents were demanding the cricketer to disassociate himself from the builder or ensure completion of pending work.
In the past, stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, and Preity Zinta were also dragged into a controversy over endorsing Maggi noodles, which was temporarily banned in India apparently due to harmful ingredients.
