India is currently up against England in a five-match Test series taking place in the UK and will be keen on making a mark going ahead. As the series currently stands 1-0 in the favour of visitors, India would be putting the best foot forward to maintain the lead. The 1st Test between the two cricketing giants resulted in a draw as rain played the spoilsport in Nottingham.
As the caravan moved to the home of cricket i.e. The Lord’s, India displayed some unbelievable grit and determination to win the match by a huge margin of 151 runs. While things looked bleak for guests till day four, the tail end and bowlers of India unfolded their A-game to script history in front of the English crowd.
The third Test will take place at Headingley, Leeds and it is expected that pitch would assist spinners in this case. It remains to be seen if India will go its previous combination or fetch back ace spinner Ravi Ashwin who has been warming the bench in this series so far. Talking about the home side, the batting department remains a concern for them as nobody apart from skipper Joe Root has been able to get going.
Playing combinations for India and England
England
Pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out of the third Test owing to his shoulder injury and Saqib Mahmood is likely to get his Test cap in the coming game. On the other hand, Malan would be walking up in the top order in place of Dominic Sibley who has been dropped for his poor run of form with England.
Joe Root and Malan will be essential for England to score some big runs in Leeds. While Root’s form has been impressive, Malan is being also expected to display good form owing to his County Championship run.
England Predicted XI: Rory Burns, Haseeb Hameed, Dawid Malan, Joe Root (c), Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler (wk), Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Ollie Robinson, Saqib Mahmood/Craig Overton, James Anderson
India
The opening duo of KL and Rohit has been performing well for India so far. Their patience and skill against the new ball are also heading in the right direction, On the other hand, it will be expected from Virat Kohli to get back to scoring runs, and a century that has been long-awaited.
Though an additional spinner might be expected in Leeds, it is highly unlikely that India will tweak its winning combination and hence would go with four pacers and a lone spinner in Ravindra Jadeja.
India Predicted Playing XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (C), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah
